Nandini Eswer

Dance and music know no language, and Nandini Eswer, the Mysorean exponent of diverse dance forms, stands as a testimony to that. She has worked for the cause of Indian dance forms to such an extent that she is now a familiar name in the west as well. A resident of Kuvempunagar area of the city, Nandini is an authority over dance forms such as Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Navarasa Abhinaya, Manipuri, and other folk dances.

She was privileged to have undergone training of these dance forms from veterans such as Padmabhushana Dr. Venkatalakshamma, Karnataka Kala Tilaka Smt. Laitha Dorai, Sri.Y.N. Simha, Pt.Teerathram Azad, Sri.Valmiki Banerjee of Delhi Ballet Group, Sri. Vedantam Prahalad Sharma, Pasumarthi Gopala Krishna of Sidhendra kalakshetra, Smt. Nupur Chatterjee of Mumbai, and Sri. Himathsimha Chauhan of Gujarath. She has choreographed and directed several dance programmes which were performed across the country and abroad as well. She has scores of achievements to her credit. Imparting of Bharatnatyam training at Fiji Islands, Conduction of Rangapravesha at Boston, USA, Workshops in USA, Concerts to USA, Germany, and Switzerland, are a few to mention.

A true propagator of art that she is, she has translated her knowledge and experiences on paper as well. She has presented papers, lectures, and authored books too. She also 'voiced' her concern for art through a radio talk Nratya Mattu Shareera on All India Radio (AIR). She is currently pursuing research work on Nandikeshvara's Abhinaya darpana:A New Approach and The Science of Teaching Techniques in Bharatanatyam. She has been honoured with numerous awards for her exceptional contributions to dance and art. Natya Ratna award conferred by Manipal Academy of Education (1973), State Award 'Karnataka kala Tilaka' conferred by Sangeetha Nrutya Academy (1994), and honours conferred on her by Karnataka Nrutya Kala parishad (1995), Durga parameshwari Nruthya Niketan, Bangalore (1998), Tyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha (2001), CCI (Critic Circle of India) New Delhi, World of Art, Slovania, Europe and World Art Foundation , Bangalore, and several other awards and honours constitute her ever growing tally of recognitions.
